It is 2005 and the middle of the school year. Edward and Alice are the only Cullens
left in high school and have (almost) successfully integrated into Bella's social circle.
The La Push pack is wondering what they should do if the Cullens decide to change
Bella into a vampire. In Italy, Aro is on the look out for any reason to visit Forks
so he can check up on the Cullens. He needs a plan to bring Alice into his Coven, but
he knows she will never leave the Cullens. Victoria is still on the loose and making
a coven of newborn vampires.

It was raining. Well, that wasn't unusual. In Forks, it was always raining. When she was younger, she hated the rain. Even now the cold wet drops that hit her forehead were a bit of a nuisance. Bella Swan had come to accept the rain, though. Even appreciate it at times. Rain meant clouds, and clouds meant that Edward would be out and about... somewhere. He was almost never separated from her now, and the brief moments when they weren't together usually meant that Bella was being watched by her father or that Edward needed to hunt. It was these rare moments when Bella usually tried to sneak off to La Push. She needed to make things right with Jacob. But she knew that the moment she decided to go, Alice would see. She often wondered if Alice really cared if Bella went to the beach. She knew that Edward would be able to read his little pixie-like sister's mind if he was around her. And Alice knew enough to tell him that Bella's life had suddenly disappeared. So even though the option was very tempting, Bella decided to not go to La Push. If Jacob happened to come to Forks to find her (doubtful since he hadn't answered any of her phone calls), well, that wouldn't be Bella's fault. So she sent her friend a text, but didn't expect an answer.
There weren't a ton of places to go in Forks, but Bella Swan as determined to get out of the house. She had recently been un-grounded. She hadn't expected it to happen that fast and she would have gladly let it go on longer. Okay, maybe not gladly, but she did realize she had scared Charlie half to death. On the other hand, there was no way that Bella was going to let Edward get himself killed because of something she'd done. Even if he hadn't wanted to be with her anymore. She was still completely surprised and in a little bit of shock that Edward still wanted her.
After deliberating for a while, Bella decided that the Library was the best place for her to be. She needed to get some new books anyway. So she hopped in her red truck (that she loved despite how big and clunky it was) and headed that way. She probably could have walked, Forks wasn't that big, but if she ended up wanting to go somewhere else, she would be happy for the red vehicle. When she got there she immediately went to the fantasy section and began skimming through the books.

It was an exceedingly typical and somewhat boring day. Which.. had kind of been a pattern lately. Phips isn’t going to go into why that is because then I’d have to tell you what everyone’s doing and that would require thinking and godmodding and other things and I’m going to get on topic now okay hi Amber. While was nice to not have to put up with the obligations that came with pretending to be a human teenager, with Alice still attending classes, Jasper was sort of at a loss for what to do with himself when she was gone. So he’d reverted to an old past time, reading. Jasper had never been very social (well, after being turned into a vampire) and didn’t go out much when it wasn’t necessary (necessary meaning school when he was attending, when Alice wanted to go out, and when Emmett all but dragged him out). So, he could, and generally had since he and Alice joined the Cullens, spent a lot of time being kept amused by books and things like that. The problem with that being when he’d practically memorized every book in the house (including Carlisle’s dense medical texts and Edward’s dramatic novels).
And that’s the explanation for the library trip despite the fact that it meant leaving the house. It was a perfectly cloudy day and he didn’t need to feed... so he really had no good excuse for not going. (Minus the fact that it meant being around people and paper which was an awful combination as we know and the reason the hadn’t gone days ago.) He decided to take one of his cars to avoid getting as wet as possible. So the trip only took a few minutes. The library wasn’t very crowded. (It never was.) However there were a few people standing in front of the shelf with new books which dissuaded Jasper from browsing there right away. Walking past the isle and towards the nonfiction section Jasper paused when he noticed a familiar figure browsing a shelf. He usually avoided people he recognized from school, but this one was a special case (in every way). ”Hello Bella.” Jasper rarely spoke to her outside of when she was at their house, and even then it wasn’t alone, so he didn’t really know where he was going with this. But he also hadn’t seen her much recently because of her being grounded, so it seemed only right to be polite. Noticing what section he was in he couldn’t help be slightly amused. ”Don’t you have enough of these kind of stories on your own?”

Bella payed for running off to Italy, but she wouldn't have changed anything. Or maybe she would have changed one thing. She might have called Charlie to let him know she was okay. She might have lied to him and said she was going to visit her mother in Florida, but she had chosen to not do either of those things. Instead she had just left with Alice, even though Jake had tried to stop her. Things had been going fine with Jake. Bella hadn't been able to care about him the way he did about her, but they had put their friendship back together after the whole werewolf thing. She had ruined that now. She only had herself to blame, but she kept telling herself that Edward was worth it. She knew he was. But she wished that her vampire boyfriend wasn't so uptight about werewolves. Bella kept insisting that Jacob would never hurt her, and she truly believed that. How could he? He cared about her. Jake had been the one to bring her out of her depression.
The voice that came from behind her was incredibly familiar, but Bella still had to turn around just to make sure. Jasper hadn't struck her as the kind of person who might visit a local library, especially on as small as this one in Forks, Washington. Actually, none of the Cullens seemed to be the type. Why borrow books when you could just buy them? It was exactly what Bella would have done, if she were rich like them anyway. It was one of the things that came between her and Edward. She didn't want him to buy her anything because she couldn't figure out how to give him anything back. In any case, there Jasper was. Standing right there in the small library.
“Hey, Jasper.” She gave him a smile, partially because she wanted to make sure he knew she held no ill feelings over her last birthday, but mostly because she genuinely liked the Cullen family. And besides, Jasper had been one of the vampires on her side when she asked for the vote on turning her. At the remark, Bella looked around her. The section was, admittedly, the kind of thing she was into. It was exactly the kind of genre that she had several books on already. “Not any that I haven't already read two or three times.” She smiled again and scanned the shelves. “How's Alice?” Alice was, of course, Bella's best vampire friend. Even though she was always trying to get the human to wear things that were just not Bella's style, the high school student still adored the Cullen girl.
